When "Uit het leven gegrepen: Kaat & Co" started airing on the “één” channel in 2004, it marked the launch of the brand new format of docufiction.
In "Uit het leven gegrepen: Kaat & Co" we follow Kaat Cremer, her family and her friends in a contemporary story of love and hate, of life and survival in a modern, urban environment. Form and approach of the programme are similar to the documentary style, whereas the lifelike events and themes refer to reality-TV. Yet the story is entirely fictional. This unique combination of elements gives the actors the freedom to place emphasis on the truthfulness of the situations they portray. The third series of the show was nominated for The Golden Rose of Luzern as well as for the Prix Europa of Berlin 2005.
